The Wild Bunch
Unsurpassed Fun and Adventure
Wednesday July 16th, Jon, Bill Mike and myself, met Forest Service Ranger
Warren Barker in Ophir around 10:00.
Our mission: To replace a FS gate that had been ripped from it's hinges by a
winter avalanche.
Our plan: To take a good gate from one road that was hardly ever used, and
replace the downed one.
So we headed just out of Ophir about a 1/4 mile and proceeded to
dismantle the good gate. We loaded it into Jon's pickup and hauled it to the
other destination.
Upon arriving at the damage site, we found the other gate was sheared off
at the hinges and the gate post was lying over almost all the way. We
strapped the winch to it and pulled it straight, and secured it back in the
ground. Hoisted the new gate in place and stepped back to admire our
handiwork.
Then it was off to Silverton over Ophir Pass for some lunch.
Total work time: 1 hr.
Total play time including lunch: 3 hrs.
Not a bad day.
