Hey all, here's the skinny on Canyon De Chelly
I called the tour company. She told me they weren't booked for Labor Day.
They provide the guide, (one for every 5 vehicles). So say we have 6 or 8 ,
we get 2 guides. The rate is $40 per hr for the first vehicle and $10 per hr
for the other vehicles. 3 Hr min. When we did it back in 2002, we did their
"3 hr tour", their "3 hr tour"......wait that's another story. Anyhoo, we
took the 3 hr tour each day but it ran over into more like 4 hrs but they
only charged for the 3 hr deal. So, say 5 vehicles. 40 per + 10 per for 4.
That's about $240 each day. Divided by 5 is somewhere in the vicinity of
$100 each. Not including tips. Oh yes, the Navajo's like the gratuity.
There is a Holiday Inn and a Best Western motel in Chinle. They run around
$100 per night, but you might get a better deal through Travelocity or
someplace. Chinle is about 2 miles from Canyon De Chelly. There are a few
other motels too that might be more affordable. Let me know if you want to
stay in a motel or camp and I'll check all the rates. The Cottonwood
Campground is right at the Canyon. It's free to stay there but no electric
hook-ups. There is a dump station. There are tent sights as well. If you
want a shower you can pay $3 at the local Chapter house just down the road.
We took a portable shower last time and cleaned up at the campground.
So we're thinking Labor Day weekend. Sept 3rd thru 6th. Subject to change.
I just need to know if anyone is interested.
October 23-25: Hole in the Rock trail.
Meetings
The meeting are held every other month on the first Monday of the
month. The meetings start at 7:00. The location has been bouncing around a
little bit
lately. Check your email for the current location or if you are a
prospective member just shoot us an email to wildbunch@bresnan.net.
There have been a few last minute trips that I did not get a chance to post
here. Remember to check your email on a regular basis. As always if you
take
pictures make sure and get them to me so I can get them on the web. If we
get to the end of the year and your picture is nowhere to be seen on the
good
ol WB4X4 then that is nobody's fault but your own.
